RAQUEL SKINNER
Career & Professional Development
Raquel Skinner has accumulated significant experience within the private and public sectors of the legal industry. Raquel is currently the Manager of Employer Outreach for the Office of Career & Professional Development at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). In this role, Raquel engages in strategic outreach to private- and public-sector legal employers to cultivate relationships, and identify and develop new job opportunities for AUWCL students and alumni. In addition, Raquel counsels law students and alumni about various career paths and opportunities in the legal market and facilitates their action plans for securing legal positions.
Prior to joining AUWCL, Raquel was an Adjunct Professor and Staff Attorney at Georgetown University Law Center in the Harrison Institute for Affordable Housing Transactions Clinic, where she represented tenant associations in their purchases of multifamily rental buildings and subsequent conversion of those buildings to low-equity cooperatives. Before then, Raquel was an Associate General Counsel at Fannie Mae, where she served as the lead attorney for public entity affordable housing transactions. Raquel began her career as a lawyer practicing in litigation, general corporate and real estate areas at several major U.S. law firms.
Raquel is a member of several civic organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (Diamond Life Member), Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated, and the Mount Rose Chapter (MD) of The Links, Incorporated (Charter Executive Board Member).
Raquel received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Spelman College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Raquel and her husband, Darren, were featured as a “Power Couple” in the Minority Corporate Counsel’s Diversity and the Bar Magazine. Raquel and Darren are the proud parents of two wonderful children.
